Charleston Summer Activities

Enjoy Charleston’s beautiful summer sunshine with these fun-filled Charleston SC activities for families.

  • South Carolina Ag + Art Tour – This free, self-guided tour of local markets and farms features local South Carolina artisans. Kids and families alike will enjoy seeing where local food is grown and artists in action. Musicians will also be onsite, and these weekend events will be a fantastic way to learn more about South Carolina’s rural life.
  • Second Sunday on King – The second Sunday of June, July and August is the ideal time to explore King Street. Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the 10 Best Shopping Streets in the U.S., you can stroll, shop, dine or enjoy live music during this time, as it is vehicle-free and pedestrian-only.
  • Beaches – Spend the day at the beach! Whether you’re exploring Kiawah or Seabrook Islands, you can wander along the preserved land that is superb for sunbathing, walking, biking or beachcombing.
  • Moncks Corner 4th of July Celebration – Held on June 29, you won’t want to miss the 4th of July Festival at Moncks Corner. Admission and parking are free but arrive early to enjoy the live bands, artists, food trucks and vendor market.
  • Patriots Point Fireworks Festival – This July 4, you won’t want to miss the spectacular fireworks festival at Patriots Point. Many families enjoy tailgating and packing picnics to enjoy this fun-filled day.

  • South Carolina Carnival – From June 6 to 9, enjoy South Carolina’s premiere Carnival that features Caribbean culture, food and music.

  • Chautauqua History Alive Festival – History comes alive through this interactive theater event that features history ranging from Charles Dickens to the American West. All events are free and family-friendly and run from June 7 to 18.
  • Southeastern BBQ Showdown – Held at Segra Park, this two-day event runs June 14 to 15. The top 25 BBQ teams nationwide will compete for a $10,000 grand prize in this event. The band Alabama will also be playing, and the evening wouldn’t be complete without a dazzling fireworks show.
