Home Telecom Partners with Local Group to Provide Gigabit Connectivity in Historic Downtown Charleston

MONCKS CORNER, SC July 13, 2018 Home Telecom has partnered with Charleston’s East West Partners (EWP), with 30 years of experience in real estate, development and resort services, to provide Gigabit connectivity to their luxurious new residential building, The Gadsden. The partnership marks the most recent “GigUP Charleston” Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) implementation in downtown Charleston.

Providing lightning fast gigabit internet connectivity that is 40-times faster than standard internet service, Home Telecom sees their partnership with the plush park side residences as the perfect blend of Charleston’s rich 350-year history, Home Telecom’s relentless pursuit of innovation in advanced technology, and EWP’s commitment to building better, smarter and more inspired communities.

The Gadsden offers exclusive features to buyers who purchase a one-, two-, or three-bedroom luxury residence in the highly walkable Gadsdenboro neighborhood. Now in addition to secure parking, a rooftop pool and clubhouse, and outdoor kitchen with a fire pit, residents can also choose to access a FTTP infrastructure throughout the building, making symmetrical gigabit internet immediately available without the cost of installation or having to wait for service.

Realtors find FTTP to be a huge enticement for those who expect the most from their home investment. Many work from home and raise families weaned on connectivity. Home Telecom’s gigabit fiber internet provides faster and more reliable bandwidth for the transfer of data for multiple users and devices including streaming movies and video without buffering, downloading and sharing files, lag-free online gaming; and more efficiency in surfing the web and sending email.

Home Telecom launched the GigUP Charleston initiative in early 2017. According to Home Telecom CEO, William S. Helmly, “We have accomplished our initial goal to kick-off the gigabit conversation and generate excitement around the possibility of faster internet speed on the peninsula. While the project is not moving as quickly as we had hoped, we’re constantly working to provide more access to gigabit speeds on the peninsula. We are extremely excited about our recent partnership with East West Partners to provide gigabit access to the residents of The Gadsden.”

The first business on the Charleston Peninsula to take advantage of FTTP gigabit technology was the Harbor Entrepreneur Center. According to John Osborne, Co-Founder and Director of the Harbor Entrepreneur Center, “Internet is as vital to our business as water. Home Telecom’s gigabit internet service has been seamless and it’s a joy to work with a true community partner.”

The Gadsden’s luxury residential development in the downtown Charleston area is the most recent to be a part of the GigUP Charleston initiative led by Home Telecom.

“The Gadsden is attracting sophisticated, engaged buyers,” said Miller Harper, East West Partners’ partner in charge of South Carolina. “Joining forces with Home Telecom provides one more great option for them. Our building offers limitless access to this great city, and gigabit services offer limitless access to the world.”

As early as 2004, Home Telecom began offering FTTP on Daniel Island, expanding the fiber network throughout Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley Counties. In 2013, they became the first to offer gigabit internet services in South Carolina with its partnership with Nexton in Summerville. Today, Home Telecom is actively serving over 29,000 residential and business addresses with close to 60% being served with fiber directly to the residential or business address.
