Map Phases

How to Read Our Map

Our Construction Map outlines the phases by address so you see when fiber will be available to you! Learn what each phase means and how to find your address.

Fiber construction has been approved! We’ve received the green light to bring Fiber to these areas in the future!

If this is how your address is labelled, check back periodically to see updates and more information about your area as we continue to work to bring you and your community a 100% fiber connection.

Construction will begin in these areas within the next 12 months. You’ll see our crews in the area during this phase staking the ground and requesting other utilities to mark their lines. This is a necessary step to ensure our crews can safely work and avoid interrupting any active utility services in the area.

Please know that all work is being done within the approved utility easements. We are committed to respecting the aesthetics of your neighborhood so some areas will take longer to build than others.

Construction is officially underway! Once your address has entered this phase, you’re halfway to receiving state-of-the-art fiber internet technology!

Our construction crews will be going through the steps linked below. We are moving closer to a date you can schedule your installation.

Our Construction Steps

Now that we've completed our construction, it's time to sign up! Visit Shop to select your services and your preferred installation time. Someone who will be on your Home Telecom account will need to present during your appointment. Each professional installation is certified prior to the technician leaving your home. We connect and thoroughly test to make sure your home is 100% covered.

Step-by-Step

What Happens During the Active Construction Phase?

During the research and design phase, we work to determine what existing infrastructure may be used so we can get fiber to you as quickly as possible, map our plan and schedule construction. Once an area has been given the green light for construction to begin, it moves through the below phases until the service is ready!

During this stage of construction, Home Telecom makes every effort to deploy underground Fiber infrastructure; however, some cases require an aerial deployment solution. Please note that our aerial fiber solution delivers the same speeds and quality of service as our buried Fiber.

A member of our crew will discuss the best path to get to your home with you. Before we can bury a line to your home, we will need to know a few things about your property. We will also call 811 to make sure that all your underground utilities are marked, but we also know that you know your yard better than anyone else! Please be sure to let us know if you have any of the below:
  » Electric Dog Fence
  » Sprinkler Systems
  » Gas Lines

We will then connect the fiber drop outside of your home. As long as we have your permission and known obstacles that may be buried, you do not need to be home in order for us to complete this work. All other work needed for you to receive internet access will be completed at your scheduled service installation.

While our crews will be working to clean up our construction debris as we move along, there will be a final clean up once construction is complete specifically regarding your home and your property. Please know that Home Telecom’s crews will replace, restore or repair any damages that occur during the construction process.

What is Fiber Internet? arrow

Fiber internet, also known as fiber-optic internet, is a type of high-speed internet connection that relies on optical fibers to transmit data, in the form of light signals, making it one of the fastest and most reliable internet options available today. Unlike some providers' so-called ‘advanced fiber networks’, ours goes all the way to your home or business. Our fiber is 100% full fiber optic internet. Having a fiber connection enables you to receive the most advanced voice, video, data and security services through one connection.

Whether it’s faster internet speeds, more high definition or any number of new applications on the horizon, rest assured you have a connection powerful enough to meet the demands of tomorrow.

Why is having a Fiber connection important? arrow

With Fiber, data transmission is almost UNLIMITED, because it moves at the speed of light, on tiny strands of glass that are extremely strong which makes it a faster, more reliable, more secure and practically future proof connection. Today, consumers send and receive more data than ever. Many homes have more than 15 devices connected to the internet at any given time.

My address doesn't show on the map? arrow

If your address doesn’t show up as a future build area, don’t worry! Visit GigUpTriCounty.com/signup and submit your interest in Fiber internet service. We review these submissions periodically and determine if there is enough interest to warrant further investigation into bringing fiber into your neighborhood! Spread the word if you want Fiber faster!

How long is this process? arrow

Once your area begins active construction, it could take several months before we are ready to schedule your installation. Please know that we are working to give you service as fast as we can. We will be sure to notify you when your area is ready! In the meantime, you can keep tabs on our progress by visiting our fiber build map page.

How can I stay updated on the progress of each project? arrow

Simple! Keep checking our handy fiber build map page. This map is updated as soon as an area has changed phases.

What if my yard has damage due to construction? arrow

Our crews make every effort to maintain the aesthetic of your neighborhood and your yard while we perform construction. If our crews have completed their work and you have concerns, please contact us by filling out the form here.

Will there be any equipment visible in my yard? arrow

There will be no equipment visible in your yard. Our equipment is placed in the utility easements. In fact, you may not even see this equipment because it is flush with the ground, which means no eye sores and no chance of hitting it with your lawn mower!

Can I opt out of installing fiber on my property? arrow

You can decline to have fiber services delivered to your home, but construction may still happen in or around your property. As a utility, Home Telecom crews work within utility easements unless given explicit permission to also perform digging on your property.

How are these fiber network expansions being funded? arrow

The Covid-19 pandemic brought to light the need for more bandwidth in our rural communities. Since 2019, Home Telecom has been able to successfully obtain several matching grants to help achieve our goal of expanding fiber internet to rural communities. A matching grant means that Home Telecom must also invest about 50% of the funds necessary to complete the proposed project in addition to any funds granted by the state or federal government.
